Creating a catch all statement for birth isn’t easy. I’ve tried. A lot. The more birth I experience, the more I change my statement. Birth is like that, you know? It’s fluid and evolving and unpredictable.
I wish I could tell you what it will be like. I’d say it’ll be the hardest thing you’ve ever done, and the best thing you’ve ever done. I’d say ‘if you think it can’t get harder, you’re wrong. It can.’ I’d say you’ll want to give up.
I wish I could help you understand.
But birth is not something explainable. It is something lived. Experienced.
You know what I can tell you?
You can do it.
Trust the process.
Believe in yourself.
And when you get to the other side, because you will, celebrate.
No matter what the birth of your child looks like, honour it with celebration. It’s a huge deal to cross the threshold into parenthood. So raise a glass!
And go tell the next pregnant person you see that it is hard, and she can do it too.
